Some experiences influence architecture in unexpected ways. A visit to the Oxford Festival of the Arts was one of them.

During the festival, YAAM Architects Co-Founder and Director Abdelrahman Khattab encountered an Earth Art installation made entirely from natural materials. Its simplicity and respect for the landscape offered a powerful reminder that meaningful design is not always about transformation—it is often about understanding and responding to place.

That experience reflects how we approach sustainability at YAAM Architects. Beyond technical standards and certifications, we see sustainability as a design philosophy that begins from the earliest stages of every project. Site, climate, materiality, and context shape our decisions long before a building takes form.

For us, architecture is about creating places that belong to their environment rather than compete with it. Sometimes, the most valuable lessons come not from buildings, but from the landscapes and experiences that change the way we think about design.
